The Fit Festival Edinburgh

Yesterday I headed to the Assembly Rooms to check out all of Edinburgh’s (and beyond!) finest health, nutrition and fitness businesses at the Fit Festival.  In true Tali form I managed to forget my camera and left my phone (in my coat pocket) with a friend for hours so pictures are unfortunately lacking! However, I managed to talk to so many inspiring people who are all passionate about what they do, and I left with lots of helpful information and guidance (as well as a bar of two of Decadently Pure raw chocolate, which is possibly the best I have ever tasted!).

One of the stands I was most impressed with were Eat and Think, who are a small business made up of dietitians who promote healthy eating.  Their basic ethos is to encourage their clients who “eat how their grandparents would” – i.e. less processed food and refined sugars, and more healthy wholegrains and vegetables.  This is something I can definitely get behind! At the Fit Festival they were generously offering free 15 minute nutrition consultations to the exhibition attendees, which proved to be very popular! My friend and I shared a 15 minute session and were given very helpful advice on reintroducing healthy carbs into our diet, as well as how to sustain energy when we both work out so much!  Eat and Think are doing a fantastic offer at the moment on their weekly meal plans – just £0.01 per month!

Another stall that I made a beeline straight towards was The Watermelon Studio, a pole dancing studio that has recently opened in New Town, Edinburgh.  So many of my pole friends have been raving on about it, and I can see why! Gwen, the owner, was an absolute gem and so lovely.  There were tons of people taking an interest, and some girls I know from UoE Pole Dancing Soc, who I’m on the committee for, were helping Gwen out.  One girl had brought her daughter, who put all of our collective flexibility to shame (how I wish I was young again!!) and was playing on the pole too!

I also had a free consultation at the Optimal Health Chiropractor stand, as my shoulder blade is still giving me grief, eight months after falling whilst horse riding.  They encouraged me to come in for X rays and a proper check up, as my shoulder and thoracic spine are not looking good.  They are doing a special offer at the Fit Festival where you can get 2 appointments for £30 (RRP: £100), so I hastily signed up.

Random moments  = downing various “health shots” including purified chlorophyll(!), falling off on the “hang tough” challenge as the bars were so slippy even though I was so close to a minute, and getting some very useful information about careers in fitness and nutrition from the guys at Phittr who seemed very knowledgeable and down to earth.

All in all a fun-packed and informative day :) I was so busy talking to everyone on the stalls that I didn’t make it to the masterclasses.  But there’s always next year….!
